Mantra Pushpam

 

This mantra is taken from Taithreeya Aranyakam of Yajur Veda. It is normally sung in a chorus by all the priests together after performing any Pooja or Yajña.

 

 

 

योपां पुष्पं वेद पुष्पवान् प्रजावान् पशुमान् भवति । चन्द्रमा वा अपां पुष्पम् । पुष्पवान् प्रजावान् पशुमान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

अग्निर्वा अपामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । योग्नेरायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपोवा अग्नेरायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

वायुर्वा अपामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । यो वायोरायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपो वै वायोरायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

असौ वै तपन्नपामायतनम् आयतनवान् भवति । योमुष्यतपत आयतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपो वा अमुष्यतपत आयतनम् ।आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

चन्द्रमा वा अपामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । यः चन्द्रमस आयतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपो वै चन्द्रमस आयतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

नक्ष्त्रत्राणि वा अपामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । यो नक्ष्त्रत्राणामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपो वै नक्षत्राणामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद॑ । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

पर्जन्यो वा अपामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । यः पर्जन्यस्यायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपो वै पर्जन्यस्यायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योपामायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति ।

 

संवत्सरो वा अपामायतनम् । आयतनवान् भवति । यः संवत्सरस्यायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । आपो वै संवत्सरस्यायतनं वेद । आयतनवान् भवति । य एवं वेद । योप्सु नावं प्रतिष्ठितां वेद । प्रत्येव तिष्ठति ।

 

ॐ राजाधिराजाय प्रसह्य साहिने । नमो वयं वैश्रवणाय कुर्महे । स मे कामान् काम कामाय मह्यम् । कामेश्वरो वैश्रवणो ददातु । कुबेराय वैश्रवणाय । महाराजाय नमः ।

अन्तश्चरति भूतेषु गुहायां विश्वमूर्तिषु

त्वं यज्ञस्त्वं वषट्कारस्त्व-मिन्द्रस्त्वग्

रुद्रस्त्वं विष्णुस्त्वं ब्रह्मत्वं प्रजापतिः ।

त्वं तदाप आपो ज्योतीरसोमृतं ब्रह्म भूर्भुवस्सुवरोम् ।

 

ॐ राजाधिराजाय प्रसह्य साहिने । नमो वयं वैश्रवणाय कुर्महे । स मे कामान् काम कामाय मह्यम् । कामेश्वरो वैश्रवणो ददातु । कुबेराय वैश्रवणाय । महाराजाय नमः ।

He who understands the flowers of water, he becomes the possessor of flowers, children and cattle. Moon is the flower of the water. He who understands this fact, he becomes the possessor of flowers, children and cattle. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself.

Fire is the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of fire. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself. 

 

 

vāyurvā apāmāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | yo vāyorāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | āpo vai vāyorāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | ya evaṃ veda | yopāmāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati |

 

Air is the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of air. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself.

 

 

asau vai tapannapāmāyatanam āyatanavān bhavati | yomuṣyatapata āyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | āpo vā amuṣyatapata āyatanam |āyatanavān bhavati | ya evaṃ veda | yopāmāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati |

 

Scorching Sun is the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of scorching Sun. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself.

 

 

candramā vā apāmāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | yaḥ candramasa āyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | āpo vai candramasa āyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | ya evaṃ veda | yopāmāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati |

 

Moon is the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of Moon. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself. 

 

 

nakṣtratrāṇi vā apāmāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | yo nakṣtratrāṇāmāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | āpo vai nakṣatrāṇāmāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | ya evaṃ veda | yopāmāyatanaṃ veda| āyatanavān bhavati |

 

Stars are the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of Stars. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself. 

 

 

parjanyo vā apāmāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | yaḥ parjanyasyāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | āpo vai parjanyasyāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | ya evaṃ veda | yopāmāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati |

 

Clouds are the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of clouds. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows the source of water, becomes established in himself.

 

 

saṃvatsaro vā apāmāyatanam | āyatanavān bhavati | yaḥ saṃvatsarasyāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | āpo vai saṃvatsarasyāyatanaṃ veda | āyatanavān bhavati | ya evaṃ veda | yopsu nāvaṃ pratiṣṭhitāṃ veda | pratyeva tiṣṭhati |

 

Rainy season is the source of water. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. Water is the source of rainy season. He who knows this, becomes established in himself. He, who knows that there is a raft available, becomes established in that raft.

 

 

Om̐ rājādhirājāya prasahya sāhine | namo vayaṃ vaiśravaṇāya kurmahe | sa me kāmān kāma kāmāya mahyam | kāmeśvaro vaiśravaṇo dadātu | kuberāya vaiśravaṇāya | mahārājāya namaḥ |

 

King of Kings, we praise thee; Who is the giver of all victories; Who is the fulfiller of all desires. Please bless me with wealth, to fulfill all our desires, Oh Kubera, we praise thee, Salutations to the King of Kings.

 

 

Variation

 

This stanza is included in some versions of mantra Pushpam.

 

oṃ tadbrahma | oṃ tadvāyuḥ | oṃ tadātmā |

oṃ tadsatyam | oṃ tatsarvam | oṃ tat-purornamaḥ ||

 

Om is Brahma. Om is air. Om is the soul.

Om is the truth. Om is everything. Om salutations to that Purusha.

 

 

antaścarati bhūteṣu guhāyāṃ viśvamūrtiṣu

tvaṃ yajñastvaṃ vaṣaṭkārastva-mindrastvagṃ

rudrastvaṃ viṣṇustvaṃ brahmatvaṃ prajāpatiḥ |

tvaṃ tadāpa āpo jyotīraso‌mṛtaṃ brahma bhūrbhuvassuvarom |

 

That which is inside all beings secretly is that Universal God.

You are the fire sacrifice. You are the personification of Vedic sacrifice. You are Indra. You are the air.

You are Rudra. You are Vishnu. You are Brahma. You are the Lord of all beings.

Om water is light, the essence is the nectar and the concept of Brahma is in all the seven worlds.

 

 

This last stanza is normally recited in all temples by priests while giving back Prasad after performing an Archana.
