Argala Stotram
In this stotra Rishi Markandeya tells his disciples on the greatness of the Devi. He describe her in all her various aspects and names.
atha argalā stotram
om asya śrī argalā stotra mantrasya viṣṇuḥ ṛṣiḥ। anuṣṭupchandaḥ। śrī mahālakṣīrdevatā। mantroditā devyobījaṃ। navārṇo mantra śaktiḥ। śrī saptaśatī mantrastatvaṃ śrī jagadanbā prītyarthe saptaśatī paṭhāṃ gatvena jape viniyogaḥ॥
Of this Argala Stotram, Lord Vishnu is the Rishi, Anushtup (eight syllables in a pada) is the meter, Mahalaxmi is the deity and it is recited for the love of Shri Jagadamba as a part of Durga Saptashati.
dhyānaṃ om bandhūka kusumābhāsāṃ pañcamuṇḍādhivāsinīṃ। sphuraccandrakalāratna mukuṭāṃ muṇḍamālinīṃ॥ trinetrāṃ rakta vasanāṃ pīnonnata ghaṭastanīṃ। pustakaṃ cākṣamālāṃ ca varaṃ cābhayakaṃ kramāt॥ dadhatīṃ saṃsmarennityamuttarāmnāyamānitāṃ।
athavā yā caṇḍī madhukaiṭabhādi daityadalanī yā māhiṣonmūlinī yā dhūmrekṣana caṇḍamuṇḍamathanī yā rakta bījāśanī। śaktiḥ śumbhaniśumbhadaityadalanī yā siddhi dātrī parā sā devī nava koṭi mūrti sahitā māṃ pātu viśveśvarī॥

Markandeya said:
Oh Goddess Jayanti (She who wins everyone), Mangala (She who gives salvation), Kali, Bhadrakali (She who is benevolent to devotees), Kapalini (She who wear a garland of skulls). Durga, Kshama (who tolerates everyone), Shiva (She who is One with Shiva as his consort), Dhatri (another name of Parvati), Svaha (the cosmic being to whom the individual being is surrendered) and Svadha (the cosmic being to whom the sacrificial offering goes), salutations to you.
jaya tvaṃ devi cāmuṇḍe jaya bhūtāpahāriṇi । jaya sarvagate devi kāla rātri namo ̕stute ॥2॥
Victory to you Oh Devi Chamunda (the killer of Chanda and Munda), victory to you Oh remover of miseries of all living beings. Victory to you Oh Devi who is present everywhere. Salutations to You Oh Kalaratri (Dark Night).
madhukaiṭhabhavidrāvi vidhātru varade namaḥ । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥3॥
Salutations to You Oh Devi, the killer of the demon Madhu and Kaitabha and the bestower of boons and protection on Shri Brahma. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
mahiṣāsura nirnāśi bhaktānāṃ sukhade namaḥ । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥4॥
Salutations to You Oh Devi, the killer of Mahishasura and giver of happiness to your devotees. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
dhūmranetra vadhe devi dharma kāmārtha dāyini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥5॥
Oh Devi, who slayed the demon Dhumranetra (Dhumralochana) and who is the giver of Dharma (path of Righteousness), Kama (Fulfilment of Desires) and Artha (Prosperity) to your devotees. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
rakta bīja vadhe devi caṇḍa muṇḍa vināśini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥6॥
Oh Devi, the killer of Raktabeeja and destroyer of demons Chanda and Munda. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
śumbhasyaiva niśumbhasya dhūmrākṣasya ca mardini | rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥7॥
Oh Devi, the killer of demons Shumbha, Nishumba and Dhumraksha. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
vandi tāṅghriyuge devi sarvasaubhāgya dāyini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥8॥
Oh Devi, whose lotus feet are worshipped by gods and who gives good fortune. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
acintya rūpa carite sarva śatṛ vināśini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥9॥
Oh Devi, whose form and character are beyond mind and who destroys all the enemies. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
natebhyaḥ sarvadā bhaktya caṇḍike duritāpahe । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥10॥
Oh Devi, Chandika, destroyer of sufferings, You to whom the devotees always bow with devotion. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
stuvadbhyobhaktipūrvaṃ tvāṃ caṇḍike vyādhi nāśini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥11॥
Oh Devi Chandika, those who praise You with full devotion You destroy their diseases and ailments. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
caṇḍike satataṃ yuddhe jayantī pāpanāśini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥12॥
Oh Devi Chandika, who is always victorious in the battles, and who is the destroyer of all sins. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
dehi saubhāgyamārogyaṃ dehi me paraṃ sukhaṃ । rūpaṃ dhehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥13॥
Oh Devi, please give us good fortune, health and complete happiness. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
vidhehi dviṣatāṃ nāśaṃ vidhehi balamuccakaiḥ । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥14॥
Oh Devi, please destroy those who hate your devotees and give me strength. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
vidhehi devi kalyāṇaṃ vidhehi vipulāṃ śriyaṃ । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥15॥
Oh Devi, please confer upon us the benevolence and great wealth. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
surāsuraśiro ratna nighṛṣṭacaraṇe'mbike । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥16॥
Oh Devi Ambika, your lotus feet are rubbed by the gems of the crowns worn by Gods and demons. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
vidhyāvantaṃ yaśasvantaṃ lakṣmīvantaṃ janaṃ kuru । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥17॥
Oh Devi, please make your devotees full of knowledge, glorified and with the attributes of Lakshmi (Beauty and Prosperity). Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
pracaṇḍa daityadarpaghne caṇḍike praṇatāyame । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥18॥
Oh Devi Chandika, destroyer of the ego of ferocious demons. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
caturbhuje caturvaktra saṃstute parameśvari । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥19॥
Oh Parameshwari (The supreme Goddess) who is praised by Lord Brahma with all his four faces and all his four hands. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
kṛṣṇena saṃstute devi śaśvadbhaktyā sadāmbike । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥20॥
Oh Devi Ambika, who is ever praised with all devotion by Lord Krishna. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
himācalasutānāthasaṃstute parameśvari । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥21॥
Oh Parameshwari, who is praised by the husband of the Himalaya daughter (Shiva). Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
indrāṇī patisadbhāva pūjite parameśvari । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥22॥
Oh Parameshwari, who is worshipped with true feelings by the husband of Indrani (Indra). Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
devi pracaṇḍa dordaṇḍa daitya darpa niṣūdini । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥23॥
Oh Devi Durga, who destroys the mighty pride of the excessively violent and powerful demons. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
devi bhaktajanoddāma dattānandodayo ̕mbike । rūpaṃ dehi jayaṃ dehi yaśo dehi dviṣo jahi ॥24॥
Oh Devi Ambika, you enlighten the supreme joy of your devotees. Please give us the spiritual beauty, the victory, the glory and destroy our enemies.
patnīṁ manoramāṃ dehi manovṛttānusāriṇīṃ । tāriṇīṃ durga saṃsāra sāgara syācalodbave ॥25॥
Oh Devi, please grant me a beautiful wife matching my mental disposition. Salutations to Devi Durga, who took birth from a good family (daughter of mountain king), and who enables us to cross the difficult ocean of the samsara (worldly existence).
idaṃstotraṃ paṭhitvā tu mahāstotraṃ paṭhennaraḥ । sa tu saptaśatīṃ samārādhya varamāpnoti durlabhaṃ ॥26॥
Salutations to Devi Durga, who took birth from a good family (daughter of mountain king), and who enables us to cross the difficult ocean of the samsara (worldly existence).
